Paraphrased from “World Business Review” with
Alexander Haig, Show #1029, Airing January, April, and September 2002.
One of the reasons why we chose WinOvationsSM,
Inc., was that we felt there was good alignment between Johnson
Controls and their methodology. WinOvations has an ability to
connect abstract issues together with a unique process
that includes three elements which I think are critical:
1. People – understanding what types of people you
need to be successful in this area.
2. A proper process to follow that doesn't limit
innovation or limit the ideation process; it still fosters that, but
allows for discipline within the creative process.
3. Last but not least, WinOvations has a
training and coaching program to make sure that the people know how to
execute the tools they are expected to use within this new process. This
is the most essential part of the program.
Part of the reason that we've been able to be more
successful at our product development efforts on the front end is the
ability to focus on the right product. In our portfolio overall, we
reduced the number of projects almost in half from what we were working
on before.
The WinOvations process allows you to take a
lot of complex issues, events and ideas that are going on, and add some
good business discipline to allow us to better focus. In the end, we can
achieve a very high percentage “hit-rate” of products that come out of
what we call our “Phase Zero Process”. “Phase Zero” encompasses the
ideation process and opportunity assessment stages.
When we exit our Phase Zero process, it becomes
available for full development and commercialization, and sale.
Sincerely,
